Malin Hartelius, soprano

Originaire de Växjô en Suède, elle fait ses études de chant au Konservatorium für Musik de Vienne en Autriche auprès de Margarete Bence. Dès la saison 1989/1990, Malin est engagée à l'Opéra de Vienne.
Depuis 1991/1992, elle est membre de l'Opéra de Zurich où elle interprète entre autre Sophie dans Le Chevalier à la Rose, Adèle dans La Chauve Souris, Blonde (l’Enlévement au Sérail), Norina (Don Pasquale), Pamina (La Flûte Enchantée) et Ännchen (Freischütz).

Après son succès aux Festivals de Ludwigsburg et Schweizingen, Malin Hartelius fait ses débuts en 1992 au Festival de Salzbourg en interprétant le rôle de Barberina dans Les Noces de Figaro sous la direction de Bernard Haitink. Elle y chante La Passion selon Saint Matthieu en 1996 et le rôle de Blondchen dans l'Enlèvement au Sérail en 1997 et 1998.
En 1993, elle fait ses débuts en récital au Théâtre du Châtelet de Paris.
En 1997/1998, elle chante en concert à la Philharmonie de Munich et fait ses débuts à l'Opéra de Francfort et au Staatsoper de Berlin.
La saison suivante, elle fait ses débuts avec la San Francisco Symphony et à la Gewandhants Leipzig avec Peter Schreier et Herbert Blomstedt. Elle est invitée par les orchestres de San Francisco, de Cleveland et chante également les Scènes de Faust à l'occasion des "Wiener Festwochen" et participe au Festival Händel de Halle avec le Concerto Köln.
En 1999, Malin Hartelius donne une série de concerts au Festival de Salzbourg avec Ton Koopman. Elle y retourne cette année pour des concerts avec le Wiener Philharmoniker et Wolfgang Sawallisch. En septembre 1999, elle joue en alternance les rôles principaux dans Les Indes Galantes de Rameau sous la direction de William Christie à l'Opéra Bastille ; d'autres invitations y sont prévues ; la chanteuse y interprétera Adèle dans La Chauve-Souris, rôle qu'elle interprétera également au Festival de Salzbourg en 2001.

En décembre 1999, elle obtient un grand succès à Zurich en interprétant Pamina dans une nouvelle production de La Flûte Enchantée dirigée par Franz Welser-Müst et Jonathan Miller.

En 2000, Malin Hartelius réalise une série de concerts avec John Eliot Gardiner en Allemagne, en Angleterre et en France. A Munich, elle chante Marzelline dans une production de Fidelio sous la direction de Zubin Mehta et interprète le rôle titre dans Alfonso e Estrella de Schubert avec Nicolaus Harnoncourt à Zurich.

Ses débuts au Festival de Glyndebourne dans le rôle de Zerlina dans une production du Don Giovanni sont prévus en 2002.

The Swedish soprano Malin Hartelius studied at the Conservatory of the City of Vienna (Opera, Lied and Oratorio) with the celebrated teacher Magarethe Bence.

After starting her career as a member of the Vienna State Opera from1989 to 1991 she was contracted by the Zurich Opera House appearing since then in roles such as Pamina&Mac226; Adele, Blondchen&Mac226; Aennchen&Mac226; etc.

After debuting at the Ludwigsburger Festspiele (1990) and Schwetzinger Festspiele (1991) Malin appeared for the first time at the Salzburg Festival in 1992 as Barbarina&Mac226; in “Le Nozze di Figaro”, in 1993 followed by Nausikaa&Mac226; from Dallapoccila's Ulysses and returned again in 1996 to sing Bach's b-minor Mass and St. Matthew Passion with the Camerata Academica under the baton of Franz Welser-Möst. In 1993 she made her recital debut at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris.

In 1997 the young soprano had had her international breakthrough with a highly praised performance as Adina in "Liebestrank" at the Opera Frankfurt and her overwhelming success as Blondchen at the Salzburger Festspiele under the baton of Marc Minkowski. She also debuted at the Munich Opernfestspiele as Najade in “Ariadne auf Naxos”. As member of the ensemble at the Zurich Opera she sung in various productions (e.g. Mitridate with Frans Brüggen). Another important debut followed in 1998, when Malin sung Sophie (Rosenkavalier) at the State Opera Unter den Linden, Berlin.

In autumn 1999 the young singer followed an invitation at the Opéra National de Paris, where she performed in Rameau's "Les Indes Galantes" (William Christie) and in Fledermaus as Adele. Only last year Malin Hartelius performed highly successful as Pamina in the new Zauberflöte production at the Opera Zurich.

The soprano is not only a celebrated opera singer but also highly acclaimed at the concerthalls throughout the world where she performes regularly with conductors like Nicholas Harnoncourt, Ton Koopman, Riccardo Chailly, John Elliot Gardiner, Peter Schreier, Herbert Blomstedt and orchestras like the Oslo Philarmonic, the Orchestra of Tonhalle Zurich, the San Francisco Saymphony and the Concentus Musicus Vienna.

In the current season Malin Hartelius took part at John Elliot Gardiners Bach Pilgrimage, and debuted as Marzellina (Fidelio) at the Munich State Opera. She was highly praised for her appearance in Harnoncourt's realisation of Schubert's rarely played opera , Alfonso und Estrella at the Zurich Opera and performed at the Salzburger Festspiele 2000 in various concerts with the Vienna Philharmonic and Wolfgang Sawallisch and Charles Mackerras conducting. She has been asked to be Zerlina in Glyndebourne's revival of Don Giovanni in 2002.
Further she will take part in the Salzburg Festival 2001 in the new production of Die Fledermaus as Adele and in concerts with the Mozarteum Orchestra under the direction of Ivor Bolton.

Malin Hartelius has recorded Mozart's arrangement of Handel's Messiah for Sony Classical, as well as Haydn's “Die Schöpfung” and Brahms&Mac226; “Ein deutsches Requiem” for FARAO Classics with Enoch zu Guttenberg.
